This fixture was always going to be tough as it was the first weekend of the club trying to turn out three teams in competitive leagues for the first time in its 50 year existence.

Trojans started the game at a high tempo and they pinned the Hurries on their own line for the first fifteen minutes. Sandown always looked dangerous though, and from a break from young wing Tom Baker he fed Michael Cooper who off loaded to Josh Wetherick to sprint under the posts with skipper Edmonston converting.

This gave the away side confidence and despite the home sides physical advantage the Sandown forwards, led by the solid front row of Steve Perfect, Adam Tyas and Kev Squibb, secured and stole ball to allow the mobile Joe Wiltshire, Michael Barrett, Chris Perfect and Adam Burton to make good ground.

The Hurries scored two more tries in the first half, the first coming from Wiltshire who took a quick penalty to crash over and then after good work from John Ring and Barrett, Richard Henry touched down in the corner, one being converted by Edmonston. Half time 19-5 to the visitors.

The second half proved to be much the same with the Hurries always looking the more dangerous going forward but solid in defence, strong tackling from WIGHTLINK man-of-the-match Joel Carey and BJ MEATS man-of-the-match Al Morey, stopped Trojans big runners in their tracks and allowed the ball to be released out to Edmonston to supply the backs and the young forwards to cause constant problems.

Trojans scored an late unconverted try but with constant pressure from the Hurries, Trojans infringed at the breakdown allowing Edmonston to score a penalty, final score 22-10.
