Report by Lawrence Edmonston

Sandown got back to winning ways on Saturday with an emphatic win over Altons second team. Travelling away for the first time this season as a club a strong squad was assembled. On a sticky pitch a weakened home side struggled to contain a rampant Sandown side throughout.

The Hurries kicked with the slope for the first half and set about Alton right away. They went close early on when BJ MEATS man-of-the-match Joel Carey found Ross Edmunds in space but the pass to young wing Tom Borer fell just short.

Strong running from George Marrinelli and Chris Perfect got the Hurries on the front foot allowing the pacey back line of Michael Henry, Josh Wetherick and WIGHTLINK man-of-the-match Tom Monks to make good breaks time and time again and with a little more composure in the last third the game could have been over at half time.

Tries from number eight Greg Dean and the returning Dean Gasper, with Tom Monks kicking a conversion and two penalties took the away side in to half time 18-0.

The second half saw much of the same and with the home side running out of players the Hurries ran in further tries from Harrison Booth, Al Morey and Simon Mayne. A good day for the club, with Sandown running out 37-7 winners.

Next week sees a home fixture at the Fairway with Andover 2.30pm kick off.
