Sandown were looking to get back to winning ways after two defeats in a row and skipper Michael Cooper fielded a strong side that set about Portsmouth right from the off. A good line out and drive from the forwards resulted in BJ MEATS man-of-the-match Greg Dean diving over to open the scoring.
Lawrence Edmonston then kicked a long range penalty before a lapse in concentration allowed Portsmouth to score an unconverted try. This was the last time the travelling side really threatened as first Dan Muir chased down a long kick to touch down and then Steve Routledge finished off a superb move to take the scores at half time to 20-5.
The second half saw much of the same as Sandown’s pace in loose play and strength in the forwards especially the back row of young WIGHTLINK man-of-the-match Aiden Price, Greg Dean, Ben Kullick and then second half substitute Ross Edmunds, allowing Michael Cooper (2), Damian Marriott, Josh Wetherick and Dan Muir to score for the home side.
