2nds still looking for first away win

After their second away game of the season Sandown are still looking for their first victory, Saturdays trip to Totts promised much but in the end the home side just about managed to edge ahead to take all the points.

The first half was definitely the home sides as they powered in for two early tries. Sandown’s only points in the first half came from a penalty from Lawrence Edmonston. The half was a bit disjointed as Sandown first lost hooker Adam Tyas with a bang on the head and then centre Josh Wertherick with a knee injury. The hurries went close on a number of occasions but some simple mistakes at set pieces cost them dearly. Half time the home side deservedly led 19-3.

The second half was a different story as the visitors rallied, scoring tries first through debutant WIGHTLINK man-of-the-match David Greenough who capitalized on a good catch and drive from a line out , with Edmonston adding the extras this put the scores at 19-10.

Totts then scored again before Edmonston took the home side by surprise with a quick penalty just outside the twenty two and nipped through a gap to touch down.

Then from the best play of the game, the ball worked its way to Matt Jones a couple of times, he released strong running BIG JOHN man-of-the-match Chris Perfect, Chris Skelly and Greg Dean at the home side. When the ball then went along the line Steve Johnson and Tom Borrer fed wing Martin Keyworth who touched down to bring the scores to 24-20 with ten minutes remaining.

The game ended on a rather controversial note as the ref awarded a try under the posts that the travelling side were convinced wasn’t grounded, this took the final score to 31-20 to the Totts.
