PRESENTATION NIGHT

Royton Cricket Club again hosted the teams presentation night. There was a good turn out in what would be their last get together as a junior team. Santos will not be fielding an U18s team.

Team Secretary Nicola Frodsham again excelled as organiser on this emotional evening. After a buffet supper the presentation got underway. Club Chairman and team coach Ian Dunkerley opened proceedings aided and abetted by fellow coaches Gareth Smith and Gary Pickup.

First up was a shield given to each of the playing squad, who in turn were invited up on to the stage to collect, whilst being subjected to a summing up of their season’s performance. Next up was Coaches' Player of the Year, which the three of them unanimously awarded Ewan McMurdo. Lastly was Players' Player of the Year, which saw George Gibson get the vote from his fellow peers.

There were also presentations given to Nicola who has been with the team from U7s throughout the age groups. The three coaches were not forgotten either. The final presentation was given to a representative of the team sponsors, Eversure Property Services, who have been associated with the club for the last five years. It was then time for all players to get together for one last time for the usual photo-call for all parents to keep as memories.

It is now time for them to decide their next step on their football journey. Several of them have already had a regular taste of Open Age Football, Ciaran Finegan for Santos while Hussain Mahmood (Heyside) and Ben Smithies (Royton Town) played for teams in the Manchester Football League. Matthew Dunkerley and Jackson Fulton also made cameo appearances for Santos and hopefully more opportunities will come their way next season.

The door is open to any other players who wish to remain with the club. However, the final decisions lay with them. Having watched them for the last few season, they are a fine group of young men, and we wish each of them all the best for the future.
