Santos hosted Mellor Reserves hoping for a much improved performance after defeat in their last fixture. After a shaky start and with a new centre back pairing they eventually got into the game. Both teams played some neat football but chances were few and far between. Mellor tried to take advantage of a reshuffled defence, now missing the departed Jonny Lambert. With Andrew Martin, making his Santos debut, organising they held the opposing attack at bay. The deadlock was broken after 35 minutes, a Mellor attacker found space and managed to fire a shot goalwards, Phil Roberts managed to parry the shot but was powerless to stop the rebound. It was the only real effort on target by both teams in the first half, with Mellor quite fortunately going into the break leading by one goal.
In the second half the match ebbed and flowed. Santos created a good chance but the cross to the far post eluded two attackers. Mellor scored a second goal midway through the half, getting the ball in midfield, they moved forward and found the net with a close range effort. Try as they might Santos could not break the Mellor defence.
It was a much improved all round performance by the team, the final scoreline flattered Mellor. There was also a Santos debut for Ryan Kershaw
