Santos started their home campaign with the visit of Dukinfield Athletic. With two wins and a strong squad, the team were looking to extend their winning streak. Disaster struck after 10 mins with goalkeeper David Clegg dismissed for a straight red card. A Ducky striker was chasing a through ball and was brought down by an onrushing Clegg. Alex Taylor went into goal and Jonny Harrison was brought into defence instantly. Despite being a man light, Santos had the better off the play and looked the more likely to score. A long clearance by Alex Taylor found Ian Marshall down the right wing and his cross was met by Ant Duffy, his shot was brilliantly saved. With five minutes to the interval the visitors opened the scoring. A quick throw in found a Ducky striker and his shot surprised the Santos defence, and on the stroke of half time they doubled their lead when a shot through a crowded penalty area found the back of the net.
The second half started with Santos looking to get back in the game, creating several chances but being frustrated by the visitors defence. They themselves had a couple of chances, being denied by some smart saves by Alex Taylor. Santos eventually got back into the game after seventy minutes. Anthony Duffy was upended in the box following a mazy run, substitute Ryan Kershaw slotting home the resultant spot kick. With five minutes to go the roles were reversed to equal the score. Ryan Kershaws ball into the box found Anthony Duffy. The striker had his back to goal but managed to shake off a defender and powerfully planted the ball into the back of the net. It was a frantic last few minutes, with Alex Taylor still managing to make a fine save at his near post
Despite being a man down for eighty minutes and clawing back a two goal deficit, the performance from the team in the second half was pleasing. It is a sign that this season there is more confidence in each player and hopefully we can be more competitive this season. One worrying sight was captain Andy Wade limping from the field in the last minute.
