Stoconians made the trip to TOAN, boasting an 100% league record, in a game played in inclement weather. It was Santos who made a bright start to the game, creating a couple of chances. It was against the run of play however that the visitors opened the scoring after 10 minutes. A shot from the left side of the penalty area found the net in the opposite corner. Worse was to follow a minute later when a Stocs striker rode a couple of tackles and shot past a despairing dive of Dayln Bardsley. Rather than fall apart, Santos picked themselves up and were rewarded with a goal after 20 minutes. Ryan Kershaws left wing corner was met by Jonny Harrisons bullet header as the stand in captain scored his second goal of the campaign. There was no further scoring in the half, although both teams made several half chances.
The second half started in light drizzle, but there was some bright football played by both teams. A quick counter attack by Stocs found their striker free, he was foiled by an excellent stop by Dayln Bardsley. Ant Duffy was put through, forcing a good save, whilst substitute Nick Campbell went agonisingly close on a couple of occasions. It became quite frantic near the end as Santos pressed for an equaliser. It duly came a couple of minutes from time. A ball from the left wing found Callum Walker in space 12 yards out, his shot managed to find the net despite the despairing effort from a defender, to open his account. The last few minutes were played out without troubling the score.
Both home matches this season have seen us come from two goals goals down only to equalise in the closing moments. We can look at the fact that we are battling to the end of these games, however we know as a group that performances need to improve if we are to pose a serious threat at the top of the league. We know what it is like to be at the bottom of the table and we dont intend to be there again this season!
