Scarborough Earn a Vital Point in a 8 Goal Thriller

With the festive period only a week away both Scarborough Men’s teams where looking to end the calendar year with a bang. There was plenty of support from the sidelines as this was the 1st time this season that Scarborough had managed to conquer the elements of the weather to host a double header of fixtures. 1st up was Scarborough 2nd who faced The City of York 8th. Going into the match both sides where level on points in search of a positive result going into the winter break.

City of York took an early lead through neat build up play within the d and the sticker calmly slotted the ball through the legs of Euan Harker. Scarborough drew level through Tayyab Sharif how opened his scoring account after an attempt on target was deflected of the keepers pads, which kindly feel to his feet allowing him to adjust his footwork to tap the ball in from close range. Captain Rob Wilcockson moved Scarborough ahead for the 1st time through an accurate strike from the top of the D as he was giving time on the ball to pick his spot. The home side now had a commanding 2 goal cushion through Tom Leech’s reverse shrike within side the D. He created space by maneuvering the defense allowing himself to riffle the shot into the top right corner giving the keeper no chance. City of York where awarded a sideline ball through a counter attack down the left wing. The taker took advantage of taking ball quickly as Scarborough where setting up. This allowed him to smash the ball into the D where their striker deflected the ball towards Euan Harker’s right post. The away side clawed there way back instantly through a precise Strike from the restart. The umpire’s blew their whistle to signal half time, which had been a thrilling 6 goal spectacle.

During half time Rob Wilcockson identified that their where plenty of positives going forward in attack and needed to tighten up space at the back.

The tables had turned now as Euan Harker came of his line to reduce the angles for a passing shot instead the away side’s striker had other ideas, by chipping the ball over the Scarborough goalkeepers head and all he could do was watch the ball glide into the top right corner. Tom Leech almost drew Scarborough Level from an impossible angle as he attempted a reverse shot which clipped the top of the bar. 4-4 was now the as midfielder Michael Humphries drew Scarborough level through a composed strike through a crowded D. The momentum was with Scarborough now as they where pilling the pressure on the away sides goal in search of a winner. Michael Humphries drilled delightful balls into the D. Scarborough forwards where unable to convert the chances.

After an entertaining match Scarborough 2nd will take plenty of positives into the 2nd half of the season and will be looking to get off to a winning start hosting Bradford 4th 16/01/2015 at 13:00.
