Scole United Fc 2 v 1 Norwich United Fc U21's

As is now the norm it was a much changed side that lined up for Scole United for their home league game against Norwich United U21's. Reserve Goalkeeper Josh Goodwin-Tallents and left winger Harry Brookes were brought into the starting 11 with fellow ressies Nathan Doe and Thomas Davey sitting on the bench marking an amazing journey for both those players and manager Alan Boulter having progressed through the ranks together from U11's right through to the 1st team. Also drafted into the starting line up was forward Liam Smith playing his 1st game since a pre-season friendly in August.
Scole knew that although they sit at the basement of the division this young Norwich United side possessed lots of quality and the home side would have to have their wits about them to get the result. Scole started well with front two Tom Dade and Smith linking up very well, Smith's movement complementing Dade's intelligent passing. It was Smith that grabbed the opener with a lovely chipped goal from an excellent through ball from right back Zac Turner. Minutes later Smith had an effort pushed onto the bar and Dade had a curling effort just wide. Scole should have scored just before half-time when the ball bobbled around the 'Planters' goalmouth and somehow Scole couldn't get it over the line despite 3 blocked attempts.
Scole payed the price 15 minutes into the second half when veteran referee Vince Roper allowed a hotly disputed Norwich goal from a deep cross that the Scole defence claimed had been handballed into the net. The game turned very scrappy from then on despite Scole going on the offensive by changing to 4-3-3. They got the winner with a Ben Norton-Hugman penalty following a great mazy run from Jordan Balls that resulted in a foul just inside the 18 yard box.
So Scole finally got their win and stretched their unbeaten run to 5 games despite this probably being their worst performance in that run.
Player of the Match: (picked by Ben Cussons) For a spectacular return and tremendous goal Liam Smith.
Next week Scole are away at Acle 14:30 but will be playing second fiddle to the reserves massive promotion battle away at Harleston Town reserves in Division 5 South. (13:30 kick off).
