Scole United Fc 4 v 2 Waveney Fc

Scole played last season's champions elect on the back of a good performance away at Caister the week before. Returning to the squad were last week's absentees Lawrence Brown, Brad Hunt & James Harrison.
The kick off started in some atrocious weather, but Scole continued where they left off the week before, working hard for each other and moving the ball around well. It took just 11 mins for the 1st goal to go in when striker Jake McDowall headed a goal past the Waveney stopper from outside the 18 yard box from a deep cross from defender Luke Martin. However Scole were not celebrating for long when in the next attack the Waveney right winger slipped his marker to deliver a dangerous cross which the grateful centre forward equalised. McDowall came close to regaining the lead following a mazy Dave Coleman run and James Harrison began a personal duel with the Waveney goalie who made 3 very good saves at the wingers expense. Skipper Ben Norton-Hugman did score for Scole from close range from a Tom Gardiner corner and midfield partner Ashley Baxter increased the lead with an absolute thunderbolt right into the top left hand corner from 25 yards out.
With a 3-1 half-time lead, Scole knew the next goal was vitally important unfortunately it came in the 50th minute for the opposition when Scole failed to clear a corner and following a big old fashioned goalmouth scramble the ball was poked home. Scole cracked on though and Coleman very nearly scored following some fantastic one touch team play across the park. The game became very competitive as both sides went looking for the the killer goal and it deservedly went the way of the home side after James Harrison finally beat his nemesis the keeper with a thumping spot kick after being bought down following a twisty run by the same player. Replacements Brad Hunt and Lawrence Brown could have added to the scoreline late on to really give justification to a brilliant display but the score remained and ended 4-2 in favour of the South Norfolk side.
Finally a result that their recent performances have been promising and this Scole side have another opportunity next week with another home tie against Beccles Town 14:00 kick off.
A great Saturday all round for Scole with the Reserves coming away from Holt United Res with a thumping 0-5 victory. Harry Rollingson bagging another hat-trick and Luke Ashford coming away with a brace.

Player of the Match: Thomas Davey (picked by Gary Oakshott).
