Scole United Fc 2 v 4 Beccles Town Fc

Following last week great win against Waveney, Scole entered the home game against Beccles Town with renewed confidence. Fielding the same starting 11 for the first time this season the only change came on the bench where young goalkeeper Callum Simmons continued his return from injury by replacing the unavailable Lawrence Brown.
Scole started where they had left off and attacked with pace and guile. Striker Jake Mcdowall had 2 shots well saved by the visiting keeper in the opening 12 minutes and centre back Thomas Davey header from a Dave Coleman corner went just over. Coleman himself nearly broke the deadlock after being put through on a one on one with the keeper who spread himself well to block the shot. It was James Harrison who finally beat the Beccles stopper with a delightful curled effort from outside the area after good build up play between himself & Coleman on the left. Scole were totally dominant and Mcdowall looked on in disbelief when his header cannoned back off the bar with the keeper beaten from a Coleman corner . Scole were made to pay for their lack of killing edge when Beccles hit an equaliser just before half-time when they scrambled the ball home following a corner.
Keeper Sam Palmer was called into action early in the second half when he saved well down to his left but Scole's nerves were settle a minute later when Mcdowall got his now customary goal following a good Tom Gardiner shot that came back off the bar. The game then got very patchy and bad tempered with the away side getting very frustrated and remonstrating often with the officials. This had the effect of disrupting the flow of Scole's game and the stop start nature of the game meant the tide began to turn. Beccles got another equaliser in almost identical fashion to their first goal with another goalmouth scramble. With their tails up they began to hit high long balls up to their tall attacker and they were definitely getting the better of the game. They took the lead from a powerful header from yet another corner and Scole could sense ahn undeserved defeat coming. Substitue Bradley Hunt nearly levelled things with a sweetly struck shot that the keeper somehow clawed away at full stretch. Ash Baxter had his goalbound header from a deep Davey cross blocked as Scole poured forwards looking for the equaliser. In the last minute Beccles sealed the point when the aforementioned striker broke away with Scole marooned up front and finished well past Palmer in goal to give the game a slightly slewed scoreline of 2-4.
So Scole live to regret the lack of killer instinct but fair play to Beccles who in their Manager Gavin Tipple's own words "found a way of winning when they were down and out!"
Player of the Match: Jake McDowall whose work rate was first class and caused the opposition defence problems all game.

Next Week is a local derby away to neighbours Long Stratton 2:00 pm KO.
