Fundraising Updates

Dear All,

Thank you to all the parents who managed along to the meeting on Sunday 24th at the Botanics café. It was great to have your support and ideas and we are now in a really good position for moving forward with our Fundraising ventures!

I felt it would be helpful to summarise what was agreed for those who were there as well as circulate our plans to those who didn’t make it. But before I do… a little update….

Our Fundraising has begun, and we have £843.96 and 40 euros banked already!!

  • A huge well done to Moira Byrne and her posse of helpers for raising an incredible £693.96 (and 40 euros) in a bucket collection at Murrayfield last Saturday at the Guinness Pro semi-final. There was a tight turnaround in making this happen and all credit to those involved for achieving a great result. Thank you to Dallas & David Dalmau, Jarrod Binsted, Katie & Andrea Byrne, Alice Malcolm Wilkinson, Rolf Maitland, Cameron & Craig Fraser, Katie Finlay, Ruth Sodden, Sandy, Isla & Maria Jamieson, and finally Kirsty, Ben & Isla De Haldevang.
  • The first Sunday cake table got of to a great start and £150 was raised by Gill, Pippa and Angela. Players, parents and passers by enjoyed all that was on offer. There are still a number of slots available if anyone is interested in taking a turn in this venture. You can provide anything - it doesn’t need to be homemaking. If you are interested could you email Gill Smith (Allyandgill@btinternet.com) and she can arrange a slot with you.

Other events discussed at the meeting:

Race Night – Friday 31 May at Stewart's Melville FP Rugby Club, Ferry Road @ 7pm

Please put this date in your diary as this will be our main fundraiser and social get together. It’s a fun night for both the parents and players and a great opportunity for meeting others. We hope that as many of you as possible can join us on the night and if not, you are still able to get involved by buying horses, sponsoring a race, donating auction and raffle prizes. Please can I encourage you all to contribute. Further information will follow.

Thanks to Jaine Campbell who is organising the races, Lynne who is printing our programme and Brian Winning who is overseeing the auction prizes. We need another couple of volunteers to assist with prizes / assist on the night so if you can help, please let Pippa know. (mepjohnston@gmail.com)

Car Boot Sale – Saturday 18th May

Moira Byrne and Carol Ann Wilkinson have kindly offered to run this successful event again. All donations should be brought to Sunday training at 9am and given to Carol Ann or Dean Wilkinson. Toys, good quality bric a brac, clothes, sports equipment etc all welcome.

Squad Photos

Our photographer, Jamie Johnston, will take photos of the squads once selected. These will be available at a cost of £10. Date tbc but likely early May.

Quiz Night

Thank you to Craig Fraser who is looking into organising this again at Forrester rugby Club on a Friday night. Date tbc

Wine Tasting evening

Thank you to Sarah Mauritzen for this suggestion, another lovely social occasion. More details and a date will follow shortly.

Glass Decorating Workshop

Thank you to Ann Maitland for offering this exciting event. More details to follow.

Singalong and Bag Packing

Thank you to Karen Wightman who is exploring both of the above and will feed back to the committee.

£50 fundraiser from our squad players

Once squads are selected, all players will be encouraged to raise £50 each in anyway that they want. This venture allows all our players to make their own contribution to fundraising in a way that works for them. From washing cars for neighbours, to bake sales at school, to sponsored walks…there is no limit to what they can do, and it would be nice to hear about their plans in due course.

Wider sources for Funding

Thanks to Ann Maitland who is looking into “Sport for All” funding along with Rotary Club funding

Sponsorship and fund matching by employers was also discussed and we would encourage everyone to explore this if they can.

Local sports councils may also offer funds for individuals involved in community projects.

A great wealth of ideas which will bring in money for the teams to travel to Paris but will also bring us together as a community of families within Scottish Touch. If anyone has any further suggestions offers of support please do let us know.

More to follow, but for now, enjoy your Eater Holidays!

Best wishes,

Pippa, Gill, Moira and Ally
