Two teams travelled to Dinnington on a fresh bright morning.
Game 1 started well with a quick try within the first 30 seconds by Quibell followed up by an equaliser from the opponents. A second try by Quibell following some speedy tagging by Conroy and I Jones along with two further tries by Conroy and a first from Kyte however an out of touch call saw Dinnington manage to step past our players to score. The second half was dominated by Scunthorpe with Stow and Conroy both putting in two tries each.
Despite excellent tagging, Dinnington still managed a couple more scores before Waldron and Kyte came up with the further green scores leaving the final result of the first game at 11 – 7 win.
The teams second match showed some great tagging by Jones I, Murray and Harris helping the team to win a turnover ball. Conroy went over the line quickly followed by a score from Jones I and Quibell. Mighty efforts at tagging helped Scunthorpe win the turnover ball on four occasions to increase our lead with tries from Conroy and Stow. Scunthorpe dominated the second half with some fantastic runs of the pitch from Murray and Jones I with a couple more scores following handling errors by Dinnington allowing Stow and Jones to cross the line again. Fantastic win at 10 – 5.
The greens other team played two close matches and were also successful winning both games 10 tries to 9 and 9 tries to 7
Thornton made it very difficult for the Dinnington team to get passed him getting some outstanding tags. Clark showed great skills by spotting spaces and running half the pitch to score a try. Excellent support from Wilkinson he made good play and good passing to help score several tries. C Jones never gave up on his marker and made sure he got his tag even if it took 3 attempts to get it. Hart made 5 tags in a row breaking down a promising attack from Dinnington. Carter showed good dodging skills spinning his way through the defence line to score. Both Proctor, Grundy and Carter made good use of the wings and made some fantastic runs.
The final game saw a mixture of players from both of the greens teams and play started with quick tries from Grundy and Wilkinson however a loose ball allowed Dinnington to make a comeback. Clark speedily scooped up a dropped ball by Dinnington and offloaded to Stow to score. A second run of excellent passing by Carter and Thornton allowing Conroy to side step through and score. Dinnington followed up with a score after a harsh out of touch decision on Stow however the lads held their improvement during the season at tag rugby with fantastic tagging by Wilkinson, Carter, Clark and Jones C allowing Hart to get two more scores in for Scunthorpe.
The last minutes of the game again displayed some fine passing and tagging skills with Jones C sneeking over the line quickly followed by Jones I, Stow and Clark. A forward pass allowed Dinnington the ball giving them time to score a couple before the whistle. Final score 11 – 6 to Scunthorpe.
Excellent display of team work from the all the under 8’s today with fantastic defence and great passing.
