The Stormers opened their account against a Cleethorpes side who lost their opening fixture to Dinnington A by 10 tries to 1. The first half was a tight affair with both defences on top and it was a Stormers error which brought the first Cleethorpes try. The Greens came back and following good play from Bradwell his pass saw Hellewell open the Stormers account and give the half time score at 1 try apiece.
In the second half Cleethorpes went further ahead before Hellewell equalised and further good work by B Howden took the Stormers into the lead before Cleethorpes scored again. Preston broke down the left in the final minute to get the winning try. Full Time Stormers 4 Cleethorpes 3
The Stormers Greens second game was against Dinnington A side and the greens showed a great defensive display until 3 errors gave Dinnington a 3 try lead at half time. The second half was a similar story with Green errors leading to another 3 tries to the home side and defeat for the Stormers.
The Stormers Greens came second in their pool and into the 3rd/4th playoff.
The Stormer reds opened their account against Dinnington B side and a good defence saw the Reds get the turnover and C Brewster broke through to score. Another break by the Reds saw Murr feed Brewster who then passed to Conroy to score. The Stormers Defence forced the turnover again and Smith sent a good pass to Brewster to get his second try. The defence let slip allowing Dinnington to pull a try back before Murr broke down the right to score to give the Reds a half time lead 4 tries to 1. The second half matched the first with Stormers defence on top forcing the turnovers allowing Warburton to produce a good run to score. Pressure by the Reds forced a dropped ball which Murr produced an excellent pick up and break through to get a great solo try. Another good break by Warburton saw Conroy on hand to dodge his way over to close the game at 7 tries to 1.
The Second game saw the reds take on Selby and the ball was turned over to Selby before the reds forced the 6 tag changeover and Conroy weaved his way through to open the scoring. Murr just missed out on an interception which opened the gap for Selby to get a try back to give a half time score at 1 try each. In the second half Murr scored following a break by Conroy. Smith continued the good work giving Dawson the opportunity to score and his never give up attitude saw him make a try saving tag at the end of the game to give the Stormer Reds 2 wins and progression to the final.
Stormer Greens 3rd/4th Place Play off
The greens took on Selby in their final game of tag rugby and it was good pressure by Selby which continually forced the Greens backwards and Selby opened up a half time lead of 3 tries to nil. The second half was much closer with Selby getting the only try although Hall just missed out scoring being forced in to touch. Full Time Selby 4 Stormer Greens 0
Stormer Reds – Final
In a tense game between two evenly matched sides it was Dinnington A side that opened the scoring and following this both sides exchanged 6 tag turnovers before Murr broke through to equalise. As the half drew to a close the Reds attacks misplaced pass saw Dinnington intercept and race though to give Dinnington a 2 tries to 1 lead at half time. The second half saw good pressure applied by the Stormers and Smith forced his way over in the corner to equalise. As timed ticked away and both sides going close before the 6 tag turnover it was the Stormers who produced some excellent support play which saw Conroy dodge his way over to give the Greens another festival win 3 tries to 2.
The coaches thank all the players for their efforts this season and parents and family members who have brought their children out in all weathers and seeing their children develop tremendously winning four out of five tournaments during the last 2 months.
With the season now finished everyone can look forward to a well deserved break ahead of a new season of contact rugby in September.
