On Sunday, the Greens under 9s entertained one of the best teams they face all season in Sheffield Tigers for their last home game of the campaign. They were looking to continue their good form which has seen some marked improvements across the board in the last 4 months. However it came to a bit of a halt against a well drilled Tigers team. Some of the Tigers lads have been playing rugby in the micro format since they were 4 years old so they have got some outstanding skills for lads of our age. Our effort and determination has seen the sides well matched in previous seasons, and also at their place before Xmas, but we came unstuck in this contest. Unfortunately our effort in the tackle and defensive line wasn’t what it should be and our cutting edge in attack was pretty steady also. Saying that, Tigers didn’t allow us any space whatsoever. We played 6 games overall, losing four of them winning one and drawing one. Running onto the ball at pace was something we wanted to focus on in this fixture and Sowerby really showed us the way, earning player of the week in the progress. Giles efforts in defence were immense making monster hit after monster hit which earned him tackler of the week. Training this Sunday and then a week off at Easter before we’re back on it at Driff-Fest the week after.
