It was a rainy winter’s morning. Today the Greens were playing Hull Ionians and we were blessed with two spectacular games of rugby.
The first match saw just how hard the Greens wanted to win with their steely defence and flamboyant play. The game started off with a stalemate in play with neither team managing to break through each other’s defences. Luca Marosi's fierce tackles and hard hitting runs were great to watch That was until Coel Gosling managed to sneak a cheeky pass to Jonas Richards who used his lightening pace to shoot over the line for a try. 1-0 to the Greens. This was not to last long as the Greens were straight back on the attack after a turn over from Coel. Allowing Daniel mcgrath to be bundled over the line for 2-0. Sadly this was not to last with Hull hitting back with 2 tries on the bounce. This did not stop the Greens and they were soon back scoring when Callum Shaw twirled through for a try 3-2.
As the game progressed, the Greens started to show that their training was paying off. Reggie Oldridge, the Bulldozer, smashed through taking five men to bring him down and snake hips ollie Chant showing us just how he earned his nickname.
As the game was drawing to a close, Coel Gosling was not to be denied his moment of glory as he snatched the ball from a mid air Hull pass an burst through to finish the game 4-2 to the Greens.
In the second game, the Greens pass and tackle play was a marvel to watch with William Worsley (tackler of the week)tackling every man that moved (he must have had his special k this morning). With the game pushing on someone had to take it by the horns and that was Player of the Week, Cameron Donskoy when he made a cross pitch run to dive over the line for a try 1-0. This was short lived with Hull picking their game up to score 2 tries in a row but this was not to stop the Greens trying to score. Hull just proved very tough to break down. Excellent efforts from Theo Price, Daniel mcgrath, Charlie Cant and Alex Bennett ended without any reward. The game finished 3-1 to Hull.
This was by far the best the Greens had played recently with cracking tackles, superb runs and amazing team work.
