The Rebuild Continues

Seaton entertained Blyth on Saturday in a game that always guarantees fireworks. Seaton made several enforced changes on the morning of the game and Cameron Lithgo was a minute away from starting at openside flanker, until Lee Burdon turned up only to nearly walk off when told he was told he would be playing tight head prop. Following a cuddle from Chairman Steven Wilson, Lee agreed to go back to his front row roots.
The game was a typical battle between two sides who match up excellently, Blyth showed real skill in getting the ball wide quickly an utilising searing pace to their advantage. Seaton opened the scoring early on with a excellently struck Ben Stockdale penalty kicked directly into the wind, one of his team mates was overheard saying 'there is no way this makes it to the posts' but it did and we had an early lead. Our first try was what Billy would describe as 'very southern hemisphere', Cameron Lithgo spurned the chance to go wide, instead chipping over the onrushing Blyth defence gathering the kick twisting, turning and belly bouncing his way over the line for a contender for try of the season. It was agreed at the time that we would not tell him how good it was, for his, and our own sakes. Our next try came in the second half courtesy of a rolling maul, upon catching a lineout Steven Wilson gathered all his fat mates in for a cuddle and we surged towards the line before Ben Glaister-Smith grounded the ball between the parted legs of Jonathan Sanderson (Swoon). The scrum had been a battle all day, penalties going both ways but mainly against BGS, however upon winning a 5 metre scrum we knew there was a chance. Shaun Mcbean gave a rousing speech about how we needed to push 'dead hard', and we did exactly that surging over the line with the young referee awarding a penalty try.
In the end we finished second best, but we are improving. With better numbers at training and more availability we can give the best teams in the league a run for their money.
The mince and dumplings post game combined exceptionally well with roasties a solid 7/10.
Man of the Match was Cameron Lithgo who will enjoy a beautiful free Matteo's meal with his wife who he will pay for.
