Backs cut open PSA

The Youth Club travelled to Hawick last Saturday to play Hawick PSA and returned with a convincing win by 53 points to 0.
Hawick have managed to put a team together each week and their young team stuck in for the whole 70 minutes against a more skilful Youth Club squad of 19 players.
The Youth Club started by taking the game into the Hawick half and after 3 minutes second row Donald Nichol used his strength to get over the Hawick try line with stand off Matthew Brass kicking over the conversion to make it 7 points to 0. Hawick were playing with enthusiasm and making things awkward for the Youth Club but after 10 minutes after some good passing by the backs resulted in Hamish Robertson scoring near the posts with Brass converting. Hawick’s forwards were trying to disrupt the Youth Club play but when the Youth Club backs of Jy Griffin and Aaron McColm moved the ball they made space for flying winger Fraser Anderson to score in the corner to make it 19 points to Nil. Hawick worked their way well into the Youth Club half but could not find a way through. The youth Club gained possession and a long kick well into the Hawick 22 was chased by Anderson who robbed the ball from the Hawick full back and passed to McColm to score in the corner. After 25 minutes Anderson used his football skills from the half way line but knocked the ball forward as he was about to score. With half time approaching after some Hawick pressure the Youth Club gained possession and McColm finished off a good passing move involving a few players. Half time Youth Club 29 Hawick PSA 0
Early in the second half Nichol scored his second when supporting the Youth Club backs. Play then became a bit scrappy with both teams making mistakes and kicking the ball anywhere. The Youth Club played all their substitutes and changed the backs around with skipper Scott Francis moving to full back and Sam Coulthard from the wing to scrum half and Matthew Stanners on the wing. These changes seemed to change the pattern of the game and the Youth Club backs were finding more space against a tiring Hawick team and Anderson scored a further 2 tries , one converted by Brass and the other by McColm to make it 48 points to Nil. The Youth Club were beginning to overpower Hawick and after Francis scored another try for the Youth club the referee blew for time with the final result 53 points to Nil in the Youth Clubs favour.
This was a good squad performance with Josh Mackay, Harry Borthwick, Aaron McColm putting in strong performances ably supported by the rest of the team Special mention must be made for Fraser Anderson who has recently come to play for the Youth Club but is proving to be a try scorer and has pace on the wing.
