Selsey out of RUR Cup

On the back a victory for Peacehaven in the FA Vase tie at Oxford Selsey visited the Sports Ground. Selsey's new manager Adam Hinshelwood was appointed on Monday and had an early chance to assess his new team.

Due to work comitments and unavailability the Selsey line up was once again shuffled, Calum Britton returned to the starting line up after a long injury lay off, Rob wimble partnered Graham Bush up top, Callum Poole and Barney Covill came into the starting line up of a team missing messers Woolf, Broadbent, Bingham, Monteiro, Giamberladini and robbed of Towers and the Miller brothers due to traffic.

Both teams were keen to get the ball down on the ground and made for some fast flowing football. First blood was drawn as Selsey switched off at a set piece allowing Rob O'Toole in at the back post to square for Craig Bunch to meet and slot the ball home to give peacehaven a lead after 10 minutes.

Selsey aimed to counter on the break and could have equalised after a strong direct run and shot from Ollie Haggar which just crept past the post. Minutes later Selsey should have equalised after a neat passing move lead to the ball being squared for Matt Wood whose shot forced a good save from the Peacehaven stopper. The resulting corner was straight off the training ground as the ball was fired in low to Wimble and his half volley just missed the target. Set pieces were causing the home side problems and once again from a corner Graham Bush's downward header from just outside the right side of the six yard box should have been turned in.

Between Selsey's set pieces Peacehaven dominated possession but were finding it difficult to break the Selsey back line, there main chances coming when they were able to find O'toole and Bunch on the wings and fire crosses into the box for Tate and the impressive McBride to attack, Sam Joyce coming to the rescue on a couple of occassions.

The second half again started brightly with both sides playing some good attacking football. Selsey created a one on one and Covill found his way through only for his shot to be saved by Joe Dryer who stood his ground and saved the shot near the edge of the area.

After 66 minutes another set piece was Selsey's downfall and the cross was met by Kneller whose accurate header just eluded Joyce and found its way into the top corner. Selsey tired and Peacehaven continued to press. The final goal came from Ryan McBride. A cross from Craig Hall towards the penalty spot was met by a diving McBride. Selsey's keeper Joyce who had saved a number of chances in the match had no chance with the header. Selsey didnt give up and continued to press and went close through a Dan Hegarty run and strike which hit the post and went wide. Ryan Morey, Jonny Miller and Graham Bush caused problems late on but couldn't find the finish in the last third. Selsey could have grabbed a late consolation goal as a Covill corner flashed across the 6 yard area but no Selsey player could turn home.

Peacehaven deserved their victory and were the most impressive side that Selsey have faced this season, good luck in th enext round.
