Solid pre season for new look Reserves

So the new season is almost upon us and its safe to say the management team and players are raring to go. The lads will be playing their football in the NSL division one this coming season and have a tough start away against Ravenshead firsts this coming Saturday.
In a strange twist though having had a really good campaign last season the Reserves have lost 9 players to new clubs, new jobs and other activities which left manager Lee Widdowson and myself scratching our heads. Speaking to Wid about mass exodus he said" having been around this level of football for a long time I was expecting to lose maybe 2 or 3 players wanting to better themselves at new clubs, but to lose nearly the whole team was a bit of a shock to be honest". " However as sad as it is to see these players leave we wish them all the best at their news clubs or in their new jobs". So the task was on to find a fair few players for the upcoming pre season friendly's and not much time to do it.
First up was away at AFC Wingfield and with 4 or 5 first teamers a few new Reserve players and even yours truly in goal we ran out 7-1 winners. If the grass hadn't been a foot long I think the score could have been a lot worse for Wingfield as the experience told in the end.
Next up was Ruddington Village Reserves who were also in division one. With no first team players in sight the lads fought a hard 0-0 draw against a tough opposition. The youngsters had performed well but just couldn't find that elusive goal to win the game. A much better test all the same. Onto Shirebrook Town Reserves next then and again a young looking squad made up of new signings and under 18s from least year earned another hard fought draw as the game finished 1-1. Again the lads had played really well and stood up to the hard tackling Shirebrook team quite well, new signing Klarke Greenham with the Reserve goal.
Next up was Melbourne Dynamo FC and this was the first sign of the young lads starting to gel as we ran out 5-3 winners against a decent Melbourne outfit. A hatrick from new signing Luke Wigley and goals from Jordan Black and Cameron Gascoyne capped off another good performance.
So onto the last friendly against Castle Donnington FC and Reserves finished their pre season in fine style with a convincing 3-0 win. The lads played some really good football with 2 goals from Klarke Greenham and the other from Jamie Shacklock fresh from his exploits with the first team. Not only did the lads play well they battled hard which they are going to need with a tough season ahead.
Speaking to Manager Lee Widdowson after the game about the pre season he said " I am delighted how its gone, all the young lads that have come in or stepped up from the 18s have done brilliantly and adding a couple of experienced players
will make all the difference for the coming season". " We are not getting carried away though and even though its been a good pre season the proof will be in the pudding next week when we start the league campaign, but cant wait to get started.
