Frustration again for Selston Reserves as 2nd team drops out of league part way through. Now back in the day when I used to play it was unheard of for teams to drop out leagues without fulfilling their fixtures, I'm not saying it didn't happen but it was rare.
Seems these days when the going gets tough the tough throw in the towel. I have been involved with the Reserves now for a season and a half and in that time 5 teams have dropped out costing the Reserves 16 points in all. Last season we lost 10 points from 3 teams leaving early and went from title contenders to finishing 6th on 35 points while the eventual winners won it with 45 points. We were gutted that all the hard work counted for a sixth place finish. Now its happening again and we have gone from joint top to second place 6 points adrift ironically of the team we play this coming weekend and they must be laughing at state of affairs. Also spare a thought for Aslockton Cranmers a new side this season going really well also title contenders who find themselves in mid table, they must also be spitting feathers. So our game at the weekend takes a whole new dimension as a loss means 9 pts adrift and possibly game over. We wont give up though and throw in that towel I referred to, no we will give it all we have got and try and stay with the league leaders but in the back of your mind fearing that teams at or near the bottom might quit at anytime and cost you more points. Its the lads I feel sorry for as its their hard work that's counting for nothing but we go again on Saturday and hopefully can get the result we need.
