Hi all, short notes this week but we have an action-packed weekend ahead of us this weekend coming with most of our senior teams back in action. Our ladies got word that they would get a walkover this weekend and so get a well-earned break after last week’s encounter. Our thirds and 20s are back in league action and will be chomping at the bit to get back tobusiness after the break.

Last week saw some great displays of rugby starting with the Ladies who welcomed old rivals UL Bohs to Coonagh in the first competition with Bohs newly formed seconds’ team. We were delighted to welcome Tracey Collopy and Ellen Farrell to the panel this week for their first senior game. Both girls started and did fantastically. The girls put on a fantastic performance and never took the foot off the gas, emerging victorious with a 38-7 score line. Four tries from Lea O’Dwyer and one a piece for Nicollette Finn and Lizzy Danagher with four conversions from Sarah Cullinan secured the deal for Shannon. Lea O’Dwyer (who is only up from u18s last year) was the well-deserved person of the match. This is a fantastic score from the ladies who are going from strength to strength in the competition this season.

Our Thirds also continued their winning ways, travelling to Abbeyfeale to play in the James Smyth Memorial Cup friendly competition. It was a great run out for the lads after Christmas and they showed the same form as they have all season coming away with a winning score line of 29-12. Well done to the lads and congratulations on the first bit of silverware this season!

Our u13s had a vital league match versus Killaloe/Ballina on Sunday in Coonagh. The lads dominated the match from the start and it is fantastic to see how skilfully they have adapted to the step up to full pitch rugby. They are a fantastic team to watch and are displaying skills beyond their years. The final score read 51-7 so a massive well done to the team and the coaches!

It wasn’t to be for the Shannon/St. Marys u18s team to welcomed Clonakilty to Grove Island on Sunday. It was a tough match in freezing conditions and the lads were unlucky to come away on the wrong side of a 15-7 score line. Hard luck must go out to the 18s who put in a great effort, it just wasn’t to be on the day.

The lotto for the last week showed no winners.

For the 05th of January, the numbers drawn were; 08, 13, 19, 28 and consolation prizes of €50 went to:

Conor Peters c/o Joe Cleary
Stephen Wallace c/o Club
3Nuala Fitzgerald c/o Tommy Rowan

Next week’s draw is for €5,100 and will be held in O’Shea’s Clonlara on the 12th January.
