Sharpness Progress in Reg Davis Cup

On a sunny afternoon Sharpness started well and took control off the first 20 minutes but with almost total possession did not produce any real clear cut chances. Against the run of play and due to a mix up Avonvale nearly took the lead on the half hour mark by narrowly hitting the post. It was all Sharpness for the next 10 minutes but they were caught in possession and were opened up by a neat pass from midfield and the Avonvale forward finished well to take them into a 1- 0 half time lead.

The second half was a different story with Sharpness creating more chances and the hard work in pre season on fitness started to pay dividends with the visitors clearly struggling to keep the pace. Some great work down the right from Tom Frankham beating the left back and cutting the ball back for Harry Aldridge to blast the ball home from 5 yards. With penalties looming Scott Bennett was introduced for the last 20 minutes and duly delivered the killer blow 3 minutes from time after some neat play down the left he finished from 3 yards to give the sharks a well deserved win against a well organised Avonvale side.
