Sharpness Make it 3 Wins in a Row

Sharpness went into this game after a week off and in some form after back to back victories. It was the home side that started brightly and it wasn't long before they were in front. After a period of sustained pressure in form Ben John latched on to a pass from Hewer to fire home after 15 minutes. This fired Sharpness on and it was no surprise that they went two up five minutes later. This time John turning provider, once again he broke through and very unselfishly squared the ball to Tom Paterson who fired home from 10 yards out. This should of been job done but Sharpness took their foot off the gas. This let a decent Avonvale side back into the game and there was still work to be done at half time with the visitors in the ascendancy.

Within two minutes of the re start Avonvale broke away from a Sharpness corner. A through ball caught the Sharpness defence napping and Ryan Collard was adjudged to have brought down their forward just outside the box and as last man he was given a straight red. Fortunately Neale saved the resulting free kick.

This lead to a number of tactical changes from Orsborn who brought Tom Paterson into Centre Back to the sure up the defence. However Avonvale got their selves back into the game 5 mins later when a lofted pass forward found the striker on the edge of the box and he controlled and finished excellently.

This led to a sustained period of pressure from the visitors but it was Sharpness who scored next. Against the run of play Sharpness went 3-1 up after 60 minutes with Ben John latching onto a great pass from Dan Turner to fire a low hard shot in from 25 yards out.

At 3-1 Sharpness were staring to look comfortable with Ben John and Jack Higgs working very hard up front and Dan Turner always a threat. On 80 minutes Keir Palmer produced a 30 yard pass that would grace any standard of football. It sliced open the Avonvale defence and after a sublime first touch from Higgs taking it away from the keeper, he fired in his first goal of the season on his comeback from injury to seal the game 4-1. Sharpness go to local rivals Dursley Town on Saturday looking to continue their good run.
