Broadwell 1 vs 3 Sharpness

Sharpness picked up a valuable 3 points on Saturday away to title chasers Broadwell. Sharpness started brightly and had many efforts on goal from distance, without causing too many problems for the home goalkeeper. The home side started to grow into the game and were beginning to cause the sharks problems getting in behind. Broadwell’s pressure began to take its toll and after a succession of corners the home side took the lead. A corner was delivered in from the left and a Broadwell defender was left unmarked at the back post to head home. Sharpness had to dig in and be strong as Broadwell put the pressure on for a second before the half. But it was Sharpness who scored the second goal just before half time when good link up play on the edge of the box after a corner, ended with Webber crashing the ball home from the edge of the box to give Sharpness a deserved equaliser after their first half efforts.
Sharpness made the perfect start to the second half when a clearance from Paterson fell to Hawes who spun his man and played a delightful ball through to the on rushing Jack Higgs who slotted home at the near post. Sharpness showed great resolve throughout the remainder of the game with every player fighting hard to preserve the lead while looking very dangerous on the break. Marklove made an excellent save from a free kick and was confident coming out and collecting from the corners and balls delivered into the box.
It was from one of Sharpness’ counter attacks that put the game beyond Broadwell when Jack Higgs helped the ball on over the top of the home defence and Bennett ran onto it and coolly slotted the ball home when one on one with the keeper. The game was played out and Sharpness picked up a vital win in their battle to avoid relegation and put the pressure on those below them.
