Illingworth U16 girls v Shaw Cross U16 girls
06 April 2019
Due to the scheduled game against Thornhill girls being cancelled as they are carrying a lot of injuries, a friendly game was arranged against Illingworth.
Illingworth kicked off and immediately gave the Sharks problems.
Their constant possession caught us off guard and they put the first points on the board after just 3 minutes - also converting the try. A second try from Illingworth followed 3 minutes later.
The Sharks settled down after this initial shell shock, and had their fair share of attacking runs with a strong run ending in Aalliyha Rhodes scoring her second try in two games on 20 minutes.
The game was now fairly evenly matched and the last 10 minutes saw no further points added for either team
HT Illingworth 10 Sharks 4
The Sharks started the second half just as Illingworth had started the first, with powerful, physical play seemingly catching the hosts by surprise.
Lauren Mowett showed her natural pace to bring the score to 10-8 just 2 minutes after the restart.
Four minutes after Lauren scored Aaliyah put the ball over the Illingworth line for her second try of the match.
Illingworth fought their way back into the match, but the Sharks defended well - particularly when Lydia Fawkes held the Illingworh attacker up to prevent them adding points.
6 minutes before the final whistle a great move by the girls ended up with Abi Pinder scoring a try.
Illingworth scored in the dying seconds, but the conversion was missed.
Full Time; Illingworth 14 Sharks 16
The girls have a couple of weeks off now before the start of the season proper
Should be a lot of good games then!
