Rugby in the sun.....At last!

Leigh Miners U16 girls v Shaw Cross Sharks U16 girls
22nd June 2019
Today was the last trip by coach across the Pennines, this time to visit Leigh Miners.
We arrived to a busy place with a beer festival and several games scheduled for the day.
The weather was fine and warm, very different to the last game at Thatto Heath!
Leigh kicked off but Lauren gathered the ball well and they girls made good carries over the half way line and after kicking on the 5th tackle Amelie Carter made the first attempt and very nearly scored.
Courtney Marsh scored 2 minutes after this attempt; shrugging off several tackles and going over the line for the first points of the game. She also converted the kick.
Just a minute after Leigh re-started the game, Maya Briggs placed the ball over in the left hand corner for her first try of the game.
Sharks really dominated for the rest of the half with Jess Harrap scoring on 12 minutes and then Lauren Mowatt adding another 4 points. Courtney Marsh added 2 from the tee.

HT Miners 0 Sharks 20

The Sharks kicked off the second half and continued the way they had in the first.
It was a game where everything was going right for the Sharks girls-great passing, good field position and wonderful communication.
A delight to watch!
Maya Briggs added to her tally with a try on 35 minutes, this time in the right hand corner and again Courtney found her kicking touch worked well-despite playing in borrowed boots, because she had forgotten hers!
On 45 minutes Neive Clarke scored after a lot of attacking pressure from our girls and by now the Sharks were in overdrive with everyone playing really well. Courtney added 2 more with the aid of Macey’s boots.
4 Minutes from time Lauren also doubled her points tally with a long run after leaving the ruck behind and placed the ball between the posts. Courtney turned the 4 into a 6 and the game was won

FT Miners 0 Sharks 36

n my opinion this match was the best I have ever seen the girls play
They have worked hard in training and it has really paid off.
Well done all of you 
