Sheffield 2nd continues their unbeaten season with a home win against Morley 2nd.

Match Report: Ian Hemmings

Sheffield 2nd has been on an impressive run, we I’ve already won our previous three games so confidence and moral are high within the squad. Morley has just been promoted into this league, therefore the team did not know what to expect from this newly promoted team, Sheffield also had many noticeable changes in the forwards and backs with Ramsden came out of retirement to start on the bench as an replacement prop and Hemmings starting in his first game this season. The backs were missing a few players due to injuries and being upped to play for the first.
First half
The game got off to a rocky start with both teams making handling errors and making very few yardages, the scrummage from both teams weren’t great at the start with the ref intervening and stopping the scrum several times within the first 20 mins, but Sheffield took control of the scrums majority of the game after that first 20mins.
Try 21minutes Joe Carrington
After the rocky start the game started to open up which allowed Sheffield to play more to their strength this led to Joe “literally” uses his head and drive the ball over the try line 7-0 Sheffield, try converted Josh Leonard.

Try 27mimute Morley No.15
This try came from a line out, Morley went out wide from the line out and found an overlap which they used to their advantage to break through and score, try converted 7-7. The game remains fairly even with the exception of Sheffield missing a penalty in the 35 minutes. Half time Sheffield 7 Morley 7.

Second half and Sheffield 2nd try
9 minutes into the second half Sheffield was awarded a line out, Sheffield decided on a maul option using our bigger pack to our advantage it didn’t went to plan but the forwards kept it together after the maul fall apart, which allows Cam to seize the opportunity and drive the ball over the try line giving Sheffield a 12-7 lead, miss conversion. Changes made Hemmings off for Ramsden as prop and Rob on for josh as fly off 60th mins.

Try no.3&4 65mins &68mins Ali Womack &Adders sheffield
Brilliant pass out the rock by ben parker, Ali hit a perfect line which allowed him to break through Morley defence to extent Sheffield lead 19-7 try converted, this try was the Turing point of the game as Sheffield became more dominate and took control of the game which lead to adders using his power and pace to get Sheffield a try 3 mins later score line 24-7 missed conversion.

Try no.2 Morley 73mins
No.9 pick and go from the rock couple of missed tackles allowed him to break through and score it was an impressive try but Sheffield seemed to have switched off thinking the game was over. This allowed him to get through more easily and score but an impressive try nonetheless. Try converted 24-14.

Try no.5 Sheffield Ben Parker 79mins
Final play of the game parker finishes of a good display at no.9 with a well-deserved try to go with his great pass to found Ali for Sheffield’s try no.3, missed conversion game ended Sheffield 29- Morely14

A great game both team started off slow but picked up gradually as the game gets on, there were some good exhibition of skills and talents on display throughout the game from all player. There were a couple standouts players such as adders, parker and Morley no.15 but all in all it was a good game especially in the second half as both team starts to play more freely. Well done to Morley they played a good game and congrats to Sheffield on continuing our winning form 4-0 next up Wharfdale away.
