U14's welcomed Matlock to Abbeydale on Sunday and following a full day of rain on Saturday and sunny skies the scene was set for a perfect match. Fresh from a tough match the previous weekend Sheffield were up to speed from the get go in this one and the healthy number of parental onlookers didn't have to wait long for the first Sheffield try, run in by one of Sheffield's speedy wingers. Things continued in this vein for most of the first half and Sheffield's vast improvement in recent months gave them the upper hand but all credit to Matlock who continued to show determination and effort throughout.
The second half was pretty much a reflection of the first, some excellent passages of play by Sheffield with Matlock bouncing back with a few tries in the final 3rd of the match. Sheffield were quick off the mark in this encounter and quickest to the loose ball. This is something coaches have been working on with Sheffield as historically they have taken a while to get into games.
All lads came off the pitch with smiles on faces which is, of course, why we all do it!
This match was refereed to a high standard by young club Ref, Tom Gray. Big thanks to Tom and big thanks to Abbeydale for preparing a pitch we could use on the training area.
