Hello to all Oaks and their families. I hope you are doing well in these difficult times.
I thought I would take this opportunity to give an update on the club and what will be happening in the coming weeks and months.
End of season
As we know, rugby was brought to a standstill, as the RFU announced the end of the 2019/2020 season, due to the outbreak of Covid-19.
At the end of each season, we normally have the end of season dinner, which allows us to celebrate the season and give out our individual awards. Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to organise the event.
The end of season dinner is still planned, but when and in what form will depend on government advice.
Before the start of season, we have our Annual General meeting, to give our members an update from the previous year and our plans for the coming season. The meeting also sees the committee to be elected for the coming season.
As with the end of season dinner, it has not been possible for this event to go ahead. The AGM will go ahead before we return to playing rugby.
In terms of on the pitch news, we have had confirmation of the league structure for the new season. We will remain in Yorkshire 4 South East.
There are no details on when the fixtures will start; again, it will depend on government advice, but we hope for updates in the near future.
This also applies to training. Until we are advised otherwise, we are unable to train or host our usual summer touch sessions.
If you would like to contribute to shaping rugby, post outbreak, the RFU have a survey through this link.
Sheffield Hawks are now sharing the facilities at Parson Cross, with the Oaks. Welcome to the Hawks.
This move has opened up opportunities for more financial grants and the possibility of renovating the pavillion to better suit both clubs. Talks are ongoing with the relevant people to make this happen.
What's happening at the moment
Frustrating as it is, we are unable to play any rugby or even meet up with each other, at the moment. As with most people, the Oaks have turned to virtual solutions. Our virtual socials have been well attended, including a very difficult quiz and Lions watch along. There are more events that will come in the coming weeks, including a certain coach's birthday.
As and when we have any news regarding: the end of season dinner, the AGM or when rugby can restart (including our summer touch sessions), updates will appear on our website or social media channels.
Take care and, hopefully, see you soon.
