The Senior 1st team recorded their first win of the Premier League 1 season with a dominant performance at Brooklands on Saturday.
Brooklands had opened the scoring despite Sheffield's extra possession. Then Dan Ievers notched his firwst from a Ben Stringer assist. George Ievers put Steelers 2-1 ahead at the end of the first quarter with a superb roll-dodge and a low-to-high shot.
Brooklands came back on a fast break with a goal but then Steelers took control. Dan scored his second after a long race around the goal. Stringer then picked up a loose ball in front of goal followed by Ben Lyons first. Steelers started to have fun and on the next fast break, Dan fed Rob Hopkins for his first. Rob scored again soon after when he was knocked to the ground but still managed to get a shot into the goal whilst prone! Stringer then fed Tom Dale for his first as Steelers finished the half 8-2 ahead.
Steelers kept the pressure on as Rob scored 2 more goals. That was followed by a rare moment as Rob Broomhead ventured upfield and took a return pass from George to leather home a fine shot. Not many Broomhead goals but that was a fine one! Ben Lyon picked up his second goal as Steelers finished 12-2 in the third quarter.
Brooklands had looked ragged but they came out in the last quarter with 2 goals. Unfortunately George came off with a dislocated shoulder after a challenge. Steelers recovered with 3 goals from Tom Dale, Rob and Stringer. Another goal from Brooklands before Rob fired home for his sixth after an assist from Jon Gill. A convincing win of 16-5 puts the Steelers 2nd in Premier League 1. A fine performance all round.
