A strong performance from league leaders but Shelford fought back with defensive resilience

Sutton Coldfield 70-0 Shelford Women

The Peacocks came home empty handed from a long away day in the north of Birmingham. The league leaders dominated possession and claimed a deserved victory. However Shelford can be happy with a new defensive resilience which kept the women in green at bay for long periods.

Congratulations to debutants Emily B and Jodie Turl, the latter deservedly earning players player. And to Danielle Busby, who’s hard hits in the last line of defence earned her coach’s player on a tiring day to be a full back.

Millie Rose was outstanding from scrum half until her afternoon was ended early with injury, with Blanca Magallon taking her position and continuing the big tackles. Work horses Rose Bradshaw and Laura Nunez-Mulder once again kept the opposition honest, and nearly earned the peacocks a try as Becki Coombs came close to burrowing over.

Memorable moments came courtesy of Charlotte Simpson and Mya Kirkpatrick, who each produced outstanding try saving tackles worthy of any highlights reel.

Thank you to Sutton Coldfield for being excellent hosts, and thank you to Briony Davies for stepping in as captain and leading superbly to keep the team together on a tough day.
