Welcome to Shelford Rugby Club U11s

Welcome to Shelford U11s

Shelford U11's are an all inclusive squad open to boys and girls aged between 10 and 11yrs as of September 1st 2019. If you have a son or daughter who is interested in playing or just finding a bit more out about rugby then we would love to hear from you.

There is of course no obligation to immediately sign up. Anyone can come and join in or just watch for 3 weeks and you don’t need much kit to get started. A gum shield and some studded boots are the only essentials. Then if you think rugby and Shelford are for you then you can join when you are ready.

If all this sounds of interest then you can get in touch in a number of ways:

You can pop down and meet us in person, our home ground is the Davey Field (Great Shelford, Cambridge CB22 5JJ) where we train or play fixtures on Sunday mornings – generally 10am-12 noon; we also train at the same address every Tuesday evening 6pm-7pm on our 3G pitch.

Or you can drop us a line for a chat, we’re really quite friendly – by contacting either:

Paul Wells – U11’s Lead Coach/Team Manager
shelford2015e@gmail.com
07896167827

or

Ade Kimpton. U11’s Coach/Team Admin
adrian@sableandhawkes.co.uk
07712 270 198

And of course, there’s stacks more information on the club website as well.

A bit more about the Shelford and the U11’s

Despite being one of the largest amateur rugby clubs in East Anglia, Shelford is predominantly run by volunteers and everyone who visits is struck by how approachable and friendly our club is. And by joining Shelford you will automatically become part of the rugby family and a club that warmly welcomes people from all walks of life, no matter your gender, age, experience, ability, fitness levels or knowledge of our game.

As for the U11’s, we currently have a squad of around 45 boys and girls who train and play fixtures home and away from September to May managed by Paul and the amazing coaches.

As a coaching group, our aim is to teach our players the skills and values needed to play contact rugby, safely, in a supportive and enjoyable environment. To do this we have a set of core beliefs that define how and why we play the game.

First and foremost, we believe that everybody has something to contribute, which is why everyone matters. And while working hard, trying your best and a positive attitude are what we expect from ourselves and the players, respect and sportsmanship will always define our rugby.

We believe the best way to have fun, feel part of something good and positive and to play well is to work together – which is why we put teamwork at the heart of what we do, on and off the pitch.

And finally, while we believe that winning is of course important, camaraderie and friendship and the enjoyment they bring, is why we play.

And some practical stuff to finish

We adhere to the Rugby Football Union’s guidelines on safeguarding, playing time and protecting young people, and we expect all parents and spectators to adhere to the club’s code of conduct (details of all our safeguarding policies and procedures and codes of conduct can be found on the Shelford Rugby Club website).

If you have got this far then well done. If it’s inspired you to get in touch, brilliant. We would love to hear from you.
