Shepton looked on course for their second league win on the spin until late on after building a two goal lead, only to be pegged back by Clevedon who hit back with two goals themselves in the last 12 minutes for the sides to share the spoils after an incident packed second period that saw both sides miss a penalty, and the hosts reduced to 10 men.
Clevedon bossed the opening quarter, with Lucas Vowles in particular looking dangerous more than once, but after Asa White headed Shepton`s first chance too high, Jack Fillingham forced Clevedon keeper Tom Creed into a save with his legs. The visitors almost took the lead after 25 minutes following a corner, as Liam Watson`s header bounced onto the Clevedon cross bar before the ball was scrambled clear, but Fillingham had more luck 10 minutes before the break when he charged down an attempted clearance from Creed to score from 10 yards and give Shepton a lead that they held up to the interval.
Shepton keeper Jonny Hill kept the lead intact soon after the restart when he kept out a decent effort from Clevedon`s Callum Eastwood, before Craig Loxton saw his free kick for Shepton deflected onto the home cross bar to deny his side a second goal. After Fillingham put Shepton`s next chance into the side netting midway through the half, the same player doubled their advantage with his second individual goal of the game with 15 minutes remaining as he dispossessed a defender and advanced towards goal before slotting the ball confidently into an empty net beyond the despairing dive of Creed who rushed from his line to try and deny the Shepton front man. However, Shepton`s lead was soon reduced to one again as their former player and Clevedon substitute Elliot Nicholson converted a cross from close range after 78 minutes to lift his sides hopes. Two minutes later the pendulum seemed to swing back Shepton`s way after Clevedon full back Alex Twiggs picked up a red card for bringing Fillingham down in the home penalty area and was adjudged to be the last defender, only for Fillingham to put the resulting spot kick the wrong side of a post. Vowles then set up a grandstand finish after his 83rd minute free kick eluded Hill`s despairing dive and found the net for his side`s second in five minutes to square the scoreline, before the same player missed a last minute chance for the home side to take all three points as his penalty kick following a foul by White was saved by Hill for the game to end all square. Neither side deserved to lose, so a draw was the right result on overall play and chances created, although Shepton will feel that they had the game won given that they had built a two goal lead late on. Fillingham shaded Hill for MoM for his fine overall play and despite his spot kick miss
