Sherburn Bears begin limbering up for the new season as this year’s divisions are announced.
Sherburn will start preparations for the new Pennine League season with their first pre-season friendly this Thursday night away at local side Kellingley Welfare, kick off time will be 6.30pm.
A second pre-season friendly will likely be played on Saturday the 6th September as the new league format will see the Premier and Championship sides begin their fixtures on Saturday September 6th, the 1st, 2nd & 3rd division sides will kick off a week later with the 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th division teams starting on the 20th of September.
The Bears as expected will start this season in division 4 following promotion from division 5 where the finished agonisingly close to winning the title after Kinsley clinched it with their last game of the season. More surprising is the omission of Crofton Cougars from the 4th division as they finished far and away the best side in division and gave a good account of themselves in the Pennine Supplementary Cup final against the all-conquering Victoria Rangers.
Sherburn will look to establish themselves in division 4 this term, playing some familiar faces in Farnley and Emley, as well as Kinsley and West Bowling A, it will certainly be a more competitive league for the Bears and hopefully one the club can make an impact on after back to back promotions in successive years.
