Shevington Sharks sit proudly in the league table knowing that great team spirit, hard work and collective performances win games. Without doubt Saturdays defensive display against Ashton Bears was a tremendous, collective team performance. This coupled with aggressive attacking options saw the Sharks come out victorious with a 24 - 10 win. In total Shevington crossed the Ashton line 5 times, with 4 tries coming from the forwards. Phil Mallalieu started the scoring taking a few Ashton players with him as he crossed the line, successfully goaled by Johnny Dunn. A change in the hooking role saw Sam Pepper come off the bench and go over for a well worked try that gave the sharks a little breathing space as they headed into the interval with a 10 - 6 lead. As the conditions worsened the Sharks picked up the intensity and had a great 15 minutes camped deep within the Ashton half, the pressure told with smart attacking options leading the way for 2 further tries from hard working loose forward Chris Dunn and the enterprising Jimmy Dyson following up a neat kick to touch down, one of them successfully goaled by Andrew Beaney. A breakaway try saw Ashton reduce the margin to 20 - 10 and with their tails up, other Ashton attacks were thwarted by great Sharks defence. The pressure was eliminated when front row forward Roy Rimmer kept up his impressive scoring streak with another try out wide. This being the final score of the day giving the Sharks a 24 - 10 win. All players deserve a mention as this was truly a great team effort. There is a short break now to get over any aches and pains before we travel to local rivals Hindley for an evening kick off on Thursday 9th April.
