The less said about Saturday the better from a Shipston point of view. With a number of injuries and players away, Shipston just about managed to scrape a side together to travel over to Coventry, but it was a day that won't live long in the memory for the Rams. Old Wheats made the most of having 90% of the possession in the game and scored consistently through their forwards, who dominated a battling but ultimately under strength Shipston pack. The Rams struggled to win any first phase ball against a well drilled and heavier Old Wheats forward pack, which meant that they spent the vast majority of the game defending.
They did manage to create one score of their own, when centre Matt Corby crossed the line after a simple crash ball from a lineout, but it was Old Wheats who would take the spoils and wrap up a convincing 64-10 victory. A word of thanks must go to the players that stepped up and gave their best under difficult circumstances, but it's back to the drawing board for Shipston and a need for improved numbers at training vital!
