Shipston find themselves sitting back at the top of the Midlands 3 West (South) table after securing a convincing win away at Old Yardleians on Saturday in some testing conditions. With constant rain throughout the match, the Rams did well to produce some quality rugby at times and come away with a victory against a side who were playing in the league above last season.
The Rams were quick to get into their stride and soon found themselves on the front foot, using their pace out wide to create overlaps and move their sizeable opposition around the park. Their dominance was rewarded with the bonus point being secured with the last play of the half. Tries for Tobi Faulkner (2) Matt Daniells and Alex Hammond giving the Rams a lead of 28-10, with John Price faultless from the tee.
The second half produced more of the same, with Shipston on top and looking to kill off the game. As has become and unwanted trend in recent weeks, the Rams gave away too many penalties which let the pressure off old Yards at times and allowed them to get out of their half. The result was never in doubt though and through some more clinical set plays, the Rams extended their lead and and clinched the away win. Further tries from Harry Clark, William Gasson and Ed Cowper - again all converted by Price - gave Shipston the victory with a score of 49-10 at full time.
There were many good performances throughout, with both Faulkners, Rob James and Matt Daniells all threatening in the backline, along with the likes of Gasson, Hammond and Brice carrying the ball well in the pack. The MOTM this week however is John Price, who linked extremely well in midfield and was faultless from the kicking tee all afternoon.
Shipston host Pinley this coming Saturday, kick off at 3pm.
