A training game with much to learn

The 1st run out of the season proved a frustrating one, whilst managing to dodge the rain showers the game got underway with shippo straight on the attack and very nearly scoring a try within 10seconds of the kick off but a knock on on the try line meant no score, we didn’t have to wait long for a try though with Devon smashing his way over from 5 yards , George h converting the extras, Alcester soon got some ball and had us camped inside our try line they dropped the ball and with the reliable boot of George h hoofing the ball upfield off the floor a foot chase began but no surprise when following his own kick with a couple of extra directional kicks George touched down for the second try again converted. With us giving Alcester some players and integrating some new new lads into the squad  you could be forgiven for thinking our passing moves might not be there but a great move through the back line gave Henry the chance to score under the posts this was the last action of the 1st period. 21-0 to shippo

The second half began with some reshuffle of players but we soon were to score again this time I couldn’t see who touched the ball down but no mistake from the kick , 28-0 . Somewhere along the way some confusion in how the set up of the game was supposed to be occurred and our lads then spent the rest of the morning getting on the wrong side of the referee. Worse than this was to lose Henry to what looked like a nasty muscle tear which hopefully isn’t as bad as it looked. With Alcester also picking up a number of injuries and us picking up 2 yellow cards and then a red the decision to finish the game was taken quite wisely.

As a training game what can we learn from this, the boys should learn you will get referees you don’t understand but one things for sure a referee won’t change his style. Keep quiet, accept the decision and play your game. Colts is probably the most difficult age to control so getting on the wrong side of a referee is never a good idea, and discipline is key to any team.

We move onto a game with Stow next week and hopefully we will be all the better for a run out today.

Up the Rams !!!
