U12 Pumas Fight Back For a Draw

On a wet dreary Sunday morning Shire Colts Pumas U12 welcomed Frys Club JFC to Sea Mills rec for a league encounter.

Searching for their first points with a limited team to choose from, we went out with a plan, that plan was to work our socks off, and play for each other. And that is what this team done from the off. The lads knew it was going to be a tough game as we started with 9 players. But something just fired up in their belly today.

From kick off the tempo was high, and we moved the ball around well, which eventually paid off when Kamil opened the scoring after just 4 minutes with a great through ball from Joel. We reset and carried on playing some nice football using the whole width of the pitch.

With the game tipping in favour of the opposition, Fry club hit us on a counter attack and drew level with a great finish. Shires head didn't drop, we kept battling, but 2 minutes later we conceded a corner, Fry club caught us out with a quick short one, the ball was whipped in the middle and it spilled free from Niko our keeper, unfortunately straight to Fry clubs player who put the visitors 2-1 up. We kept battling to half time and the score stayed at 2-1.

This was the perfect time for a team talk. A reset, and rethink about how we get this back. The boys went back out and started with a fire in their belly. Pure grit and determination, and some amazing defending kept out Fry club from scoring as they piled on the pressure, but Shire fought back with some great attacking prowess of their own. Kamil hit the side netting with a sweet volley as did Niehm late on in the second half. Eventually the pressure paid off as we reached the last 5 minutes. We had a corner and the ball was played in to the box and Niehm was bundled over from behind without the ball being played.

Kamil is our dedicated penalty taker, but handed the ball to Niehm as he had won us the chance to draw level. We hadnt really practiced any penalties so we let Niehm make his choice of how to approach. Well, we watched in anticipation and he fired home high in the roof of the net. A great penalty,

The game ended at 2-2, with the boys celebrating a draw as though it was a win, and I cant blame them, as they fully deserved it after the effort they had all put in.

Well done to all the Pumas who played a massive part in this result!

Onwards and upwards GO PUMAS!!
