Shirebrook Poor Run Of Form Continues With Gedling Defeat
Shirebrook Town poor run of form post lockdown continued Saturday as they fell to a 4-1 defeat at Gedling Miners Welfare
ATT 114
Gedling set out there stall early on forcing a corner straight from the kick off but Shirebrook managed to force the danger away but in the 4th minute Gedling did take the lead when Niall Hylton ran through 1 on 1 with Michael Ball in the Shirebrook goal and slid it past ball into the net however Shirebrook were not happy the goal was given after a blatant foul in the build up to the goal went unpunished by the officials Shirebrook really were struggling to get a foothold in the game and as the minutes ticked by they were lucky not to fall further behind as Courtney Hastings, Felix Hogg and Kieran Harrison all had chances to extend the home side lead Shirebrook best passage of play in the half saw them get the ball into the net but Grant Mitchell had strayed offside and the linesman soon had his flag up the Shirebrook defence was soon under pressure again as Ruben Wiggins Thomas almost doubled the home side lead but his low shot is pushed onto the post by Ball and Courtney Hastings again went close but as the half was drawing to a close the pressure finally paid off for the home side Niall Hylton shot was well saved by Ball but Greg Tempest was on hand to tap home the rebound and Gedling had a firm grip on the game as the sides went in at the break.
The second half was more of the same with Gedling dominating the play and Shirebrook were thankful to the officials again only 4 minutes into the half when Gedling had the ball in the net again but it was ruled out for hand ball Shirebrook really were living dangerously as more chances fell to the home side as Ruben Wiggins-Thomas’ goal bound shot was well blocked by the Shirebrook defence and Steven Brett headed a freekick just wide but just when it looked like Shirebrook were out for the count they were handed a life line in the 65th minute when Joe Harris took aim from distance and managed to find the bottom corner but just when it looked like Shirebrook had been handed a way back into the game Gedling restored there 2 goal advantage in the 69th minute when a cross from the left was spilled by Ball and Greg Tempest lashed the loose ball into the roof of the net and 3 soon became 4 in the 73rd minute when Ruben Wiggins-Thomas got Gedling 4th goal of the afternoon and things went from bad to worse for Shirebrook in the 79th minute when they were reduced to 10 men when Ryan Ordidge was given a straight red for a tackle on Courtney Hastings the 10 men of Shirebrook did manage to see out the final 11 minutes of the game without anymore damage to the score line but they knew it was and afternoon they had been 2nd best in every department.
