Shortwood United FC are awarded FA Charter Standard status for 2020/2021

Shortwood United are pleased to announce that they have been awarded Charter Standard status for a second year.
As part of the ongoing development within the club and to ensure we meet ‘best practice’ principles, the club had to enter a period of rigorous examination of what it does both on and off the pitch. We applied for this award back in the Autumn of 2019 and were granted this status just before Christmas that year.
The aim of the scheme is to ensure football is played in a ‘safe environment, is fun and inclusive, and raises standards, awareness and then taking action.’
We are ‘examined’ on matters including: coaching and first aid qualifications, safeguarding, club rules/policies on how the club is run and the finances of the club. Events after New Year 2020 took a slightly different path as we are all well aware of, so any official certificates did not come through very quickly.
There is an annual check on our progress and we have received our first official certificate this week – see link at the foot of the page! In return for this the club has received some valuable football equipment and it also can give the club access to grants for improving the club’s facilities.
The club would like to thank Scott Milne, the GFA co-ordinator for the Charter Standard scheme for all his support and advice and also Rachael Freeman our Youth section Secretary for her input.
This now means that both the Senior and Youth sections of the club have Charter Standard status and we hope that when get back to playing football the club will go from strength to strength both on and off the pitch.
