Shortwood Utd welcomed Cheltenham Town Development to the Meadow Bank on the first day of the 2018/19 season with traditional football weather of rain ending the summer break.

Shortwood started the stronger team with the Cheltenham goal keeper making serval excellent saves. The deadlock was broken on 19 minutes after Cheltenham cleared a corner and the ball fell to Toby Colliver who shot from outside the box into the top corner scoring the goal of the game to make it 1-0 to Shortwood. Shortwood went into the break leading 2-0 after a goal from Jake Evans.

Jake Evans scored again to make it 3-0 following fine work from James Day, Fraser Hankins broke free to score to make it 4-0. After a good run down the right wing from Callum Freeman he got brought down in the box allowing Taylor Bayliss to score from a very well taken penalty, the Wood led 5-0 going into the last period.

Harry Hepburn’s shot was blocked by Cheltenham, a corner was awarded which Toby Colliver took and scored his 2nd of the match. Credit must go to Cheltenham who never gave up and were rewarded when Dylan Jones scored a fabulous rabonna goal from just inside the area to make it 6-1.

After great work from Freddie Fisher down the right wing he crossed the ball in which was met by Ethan Moulden at the back post to make it 7-1.

A fantastic first game in the JPL for Shortwood with some great team work .

Thank You to Cheltenham for a great game and we wish you all the best for the season.
