The first Xl made a fantastic start to the new 2019 BDPCL Season beating Barnt Green by 8 wickets, after winning the toss and inviting the hosts to bat Shrewsbury managed to bowl out Barnt Green for just 65, there was some superb bowling from all four of the frontline seam bowlers, who were well backed up in the field.
Mike Barnard picked up where he left off in 2018 with a fine spell of new ball bowling finishing with figures of 10-4-13-4 Sam Ellis making his league debut also took four wickets ending with 5.3-0-13-4, there was also a wicket a piece for Worcestershire County Captain Joe Leach making his first appearance since the 2015 season and new recruit George Garrett. Matt Swift took four catches behind the stumps in a very tidy display.
In reply Shrewsbury took just 11.4 overs to get the 65 runs required with Rob Foster 39 not out and Joe Leach 19 the main contributors.
A very tough test awaits the first Xl this coming weekend with Berkswell the 2018 champions making the journey to London Road for a 12pm start!
The rest of the clubs side start their league fixtures this coming weekend, with three new captains in charge, the Second team led by Dan Manders begin with an away trip to Frankton CC, the Third Xl led by Steve Froggatt have an away trip to Harcourt CC and the Fourth Xl led by Ali Pearce start with an away trip on Sunday to Bridgnorth.
The First Xl will also be in action this coming Sunday (28th), playing in the first round of the National Knockout against local neighbours Shelton CC at home at London Road 1pm Start.
