With lighter nights upon us, mine and the committee’s minds turn to the new season which is now unbelievably only one month away! It has been a busy winter for the Club and I hope that all members will be able to reap the rewards of what has been going on behind the scenes.
Your continued support is highly valued by the club and I therefore enclose the 2019 membership information. At the club’s AGM in November, it was agreed to maintain the membership categories and subscriptions for a fourth year. Members can still benefit from a discounted membership price by renewing their membership before 20th April 2019. You can pay for your membership via the payments section of club’s website by clicking on the
In cricket news the first team will again play in the Birmingham & District Premier Cricket premier division which is a fantastic level of cricket available to players and for spectators in the Shrewsbury area. Due to the restructure of the Birmingham league and all the feeder leagues, our second team this season will be playing in the first division of the Shropshire league and will be captained by Dan Manders. This is a big change, but it will mean good local opposition and less travel to games for players. The third team will be playing in the 6th division of the Shropshire cricket league at the Unison ground under newly appointed captain Steve Froggatt and the fourth team, captained by Ali Pearce, will again play in the Sunday 1st division, all matches to be played at London Road. The Club is really pleased to be able to offer these teams the opportunity to play at Unison and London Road respectively as it is really important that the standard of the facilities experienced by all our playing members is high and we hope to encourage more people to play senior cricket for the club because of these facilities. Please do get in touch if you would like to play for Shrewsbury Cricket Club in any of our four senior teams.
Last season junior coaching moved to a Friday evening and this was a great success with a greater number of parents and families choosing to spend the evening at the club watching the training and enjoying a drink or two. This season will be no different and will start with Allstars for our 5-8 year olds and then continuing with our junior coaching sessions. The bar will be open, and we are hoping to have a number of BBQ events to take advantage of the warmer weather ….. here’s hoping! A junior welcome evening is also planned for Friday 5th April where you can sign up your youngsters, learn more about the club and the coaches and order club kit so put this date in your diary.
Fixture Cards will be available from the clubhouse bar from 13th April when the 1st XI will play the Worcestershire Academy in the first round of the Graham Williamson Trophy. The club is currently finalising
its social calendar for the summer and dates for the various events will be sent out to members in due course, but the first confirmed date will be a Club social on Friday 5th April. We hope to see as many of you attending these events as possible.
As an amateur club, we rely on sponsorship to ensure we can run effectively. We have a number of sponsorship opportunities available to local businesses for the upcoming season so if you know of any companies which may be interested in sponsoring the Club, in any capacity, please do get in touch.
I would be really pleased if your membership is continued for 2019 and I hope to meet you at the club either at a game or one of the social events planned for the upcoming season. My email address is below if you wish to contact me with any questions or sponsorships referrals.
