Skipper Rob Foster wants Shrewsbury's cricketers to rediscover some consistency in the Birmingham League's premier division as they prepare to face former England man Kabir Ali on Saturday.

Boosted by last weekend's convincing nine-wicket home win over Kidderminster, Foster leads Shrewsbury to West Bromwich Dartmouth on Saturday.

Ex-England strike bowler Ali, whose first-class career took in Worcestershire, Hampshire and Lancashire, has been a regular in the West Bromwich team this season, playing under the captaincy of his cousin Kadeer, another man with plenty of experience of the first-class scene.

"They're always a dangerous team," said Foster, of Saturday's hosts. "A player like Kadeer Ali can win a game on his own quite often with the bat or ball and Kabir Ali is there as well now.

"It's always nice to play against people who have been there and done it. He had a very good first-class career and played cricket for England, so it's nice to play against people like that."

Foster added: "West Brom away is one of our toughest fixtures of the season. They won the league in 2014 and they're a very good side. They've got some good spinners and it does turn a lot, so it will be a tough away fixture, but it will be nice if we can register a win on the road."

Foster was pleased with Shrewsbury's display in sweeping aside Kidderminster last time out and he's keen it acts as a springboard moving forward.

"We need to try and get a bit of consistency and win a few games back-to-back really, or certainly perform more consistently," he stressed.

"It will be nice to hopefully try and build on last weekend against Kidderminster and get another good performance.

"We've got to try and put two or three performances together in a row rather than be good one week and dire the next and rained off the week after."

Foster hopes ex-Glamorgan man Adam Shantry and George Panayi, who recently signed his first professional contract with Warwickshire, may both be available to return, while he's also waiting to see if Ed Barnard will be able to play for a second successive weekend after being a welcome late addition against Kidderminster.

He added: "I would imagine we wouldn't have Ed Barnard, but you never know. He rang me at 10pm last Friday night asking to play."
