Siddal's Under 16 side play in the Barla National Cup Final at Batley Bulldogs' stadium in a 1.30pm kick on Saturday, when they will take on Blackbrook Royals from St Helens.
Following a bye in the first round, the path to the final has been:
Round 2 - Cottingham Tigers (a) 0-22
Round 3 - Oldham St Annes (h) 36-0
Quarter Final - Newton Storm (a) 0-18
Semi-Final - Stanningley (a) 10-46
Joint head coach Gareth Blackburn joined Adie Booth to help manage the team in February. Many of the players have been in the squad since they were formed as an Under 8's side with Adie working alongside Mark (Digger) Greenwood until the end of the 2018 season as Under 15's. Gareth was keen to praise Digger and Adie in recognising the work the duo have put in over many seasons. "Digger and Adie did a great job with a group of lads who have developed as a team over the years. I have come in this season to work alongside Adie and brought some new ideas, but those two laid a fantastic platform for what we have done so far this season."
"When I became involved before the season got underway my challenge to the squad was to do something special in their last year together. At the end of this season, some of the squad will be signed on by pro clubs and after playing together for so long the target was to finish as a group on a high. We haven't reached those heights yet as we have one more hurdle to overcome. The team that Martin Scrimshaw coached won this trophy two years on the trot and are rightly seen as a very special side. I'd like this team to be remembered as a special side too and that's the challenge for the lads on Saturday."
"I don't know too muck about Blackbrook. I'm told they have a few lads on scholarship at Wigan and they are obviously a talented team to have reached the final. We can only focus on our performance and Adie and I also have some very talented players in our side."
The coaching team are normally on NCL duty on Saturdays, with Gareth at stand off and Adie helping on the medical side and they double up as the Under 16's usually play on Sundays. This Saturday their attention will be firmly focused on their coaching role at Batley.
Gareth and Adie have a squad of 21 players to choose from and they have some difficult decisions to select the 17 that will play on Saturday. The 21 man squad is:
Good luck from everyone at Siddal RL.
