Disappointing performance as Droitwich complete double
Sikh Hunters’ recent winning run came to an end on Saturday as they were beaten 4-0 by Droitwich Spa in a harsh lesson in the importance of taking chances.
Hunters started the game well with Hinesh Patel at the heart of their best moves. The little schemer thought he’d won a penalty early on as he danced into the Spa area and was clipped by a defender but the referee waved away the away sides claims.
Another impressive foray forward led to Sanjay Malhi being through one on one with the keeper yet he fired wide when it seemed easier to score before Ashley Smith was unfortunate to see a free kick tipped onto the crossbar from fully 25 yards.
Hunters were made to pay for their profligacy minutes before half time when a tame Droitwich effort appeared to be no trouble for Hunters keeper Liam Haynes before hitting a bobble and going in, with no blame attributed to the young glovesman. A freakish and undeserved lead for the home side and it was a lead they doubled right on the interval as Hunters failed to deal with a corner and a Spa player headed in for 2-0.
Hunters went three up front for the second half in an attempt to get back into the game, Tyrone Atkinson coming on and making a considerable impact. As Hunters pushed forward, Spa scored a third on the counter attack as a low cross was unfortunately turned into his own net by Ashley Smith before Spa completed the scoring late on with a great header from the impressive James Lemon.
This Saturday, Hunters are back at their Long Lane home as they entertain Newport Town. Kick off is at 3pm.
