Lovatt's Lions get back to winning ways
Sikh Hunters got back to winning ways on Saturday as they beat Wellington Amateurs 3-0 in Telford.
Hunters with a new look formation and looking resplendent in white, flew out of the blocks, undeterred by their opposition’s fine midweek win at Wrens Nest and started the brighter of the two sides. Liam Haynes a relative spectator for large parts of the opening stages. As both teams jabbed at each other, sizing each other up, it was hunters who were looking the more likely to breaking the deadlock as Atkinson, Jones and Patel all started the game brightly and we were looking to attack at any opportunity. It was that man Patel who opened the scoring with what is now a trademark goal. A corner played nicely into his feet on edge of area, Patel sold his marker a dummy before shaping up and curling the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net out of the keeper’s reach. Shortly after, Hunters doubled their advantage and again it was a fine goal.
Superb work from Dan Jones on the left hand side enabled him to play a 25 year pin point diagonal pass to Mitch Lawley who trapped neatly and then produced a laser like strike from 25 yards back across the keeper and into the top left corner.
2-0 at half time.
In the second half and the expected Wellington onslaught never actually arrived and it was in fact the away side who were again in the ascendancy. Leading goal scorer Justin Nisbett unlucky not to make it 3-0 after a tidy lob over the home goalkeeper was saved on the line last ditch by a Welly Ams defender.
He wouldn't have to wait much longer for his goal however after his predatory instincts found him in the right place and right time to prod home from close range to make it 3-0. Hunters saw the game out to keep it at 3-0 picking up only their second clean sheet of season and inflict on Wellington their heaviest defeat so far.
Hunters are back at their Long Lane home this Saturday as they entertain current League leaders Team Dudley. Kick off is at 3pm.
